Star Trek legends reveal Spock's design history and Leonard Nimoy's early roles
William Shatner has revealed that network executives at NBC originally wanted to remove the signature pointy ears from the character Spock in the original Star Trek series. Shatner, who played Captain Kirk, noted that the production team successfully resisted these changes, preserving a key element that helped the show feel unique and otherworldly.
In a separate look at his career history, Leonard Nimoy appeared in the 1961 western series Rawhide alongside a young Clint Eastwood. In the episode ‘Incident Before Black Pass’, Nimoy played a character named Anko, a violent and impulsive individual whose role was a significant departure from the rational and controlled persona of Spock.
