Star Trek producer reveals blocked Doctor Who crossover

Akiva Goldsman, a producer for ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’, has revealed that discussions were held regarding a potential crossover between the ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Doctor Who’ franchises. Goldsman noted that while he and former ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Russell T. Davies attempted to plot the event, the project was ultimately blocked by studio executives. In response, Goldsman has incorporated various ‘Doctor Who’ easter eggs into ‘Strange New Worlds’, including visual references to the TARDIS and verbal nods from characters.

Goldsman also shared details regarding scrapped ideas for the series, including potential cameos by William Shatner. One concept involved a dramatic exploration of the ‘City on the Edge of Forever’ storyline, examining the different paths Kirk could have taken. Additionally, Goldsman indicated that the proposed ‘Star Trek: Year One’ series featuring Paul Wesley is unlikely to proceed, noting that the sets have been removed and production momentum has ceased.
