Star Trek reboot to feature new cast and distant future setting

Paramount is developing a new Star Trek feature film that aims to significantly reboot the science fiction franchise. Directed, written, and produced by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the project is expected to move away from the Kelvin timeline and the characters portrayed by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana.

Key elements of the new direction include a completely new cast and original characters. The story is set to take place in a much more distant future than previously explored in the franchise, serving as a fresh entry point for new audiences while remaining faithful to the core ideals of the series. While the script is currently in development, no official release date has been announced.
