Star Wars exhibition announced for The Franklin Institute
Lucasfilm and Disney have announced a new exhibition titled ‘Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy’. The showcase is scheduled to run from February 13 to September 6, 2027, at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The exhibition will feature over 70 original film objects, including Darth Vader’s mask, the R2-D2 and C-3PO droids, Darth Maul’s lightsaber hilt, and a life-sized replica of Han Solo in carbonite. Additionally, the collection includes more than 100 collectible toys and 30 rare prototypes that have never been previously displayed to the public.
Visitors can engage with immersive environments using projection technology and reconstructed sets, such as Queen Amidala’s throne room from Naboo. The event also highlights the franchise's evolution through a ‘Wireframe Works’ gallery, which displays production sketches, engineering diagrams, and design notes.
Since its debut in 1977, the Star Wars franchise has expanded into a global phenomenon across films, television, books, and merchandise, generating over $10 billion in revenue according to Disney.
