Star Wars expands with new film and Skywalker trilogy

Lucasfilm is expanding the Star Wars franchise through both cinematic and television-to-film transitions. A new feature film, titled ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, is being developed following the success of the Disney+ series. The project, overseen by Dave Filoni, aims to blend modern visual effects with traditional techniques such as stop-motion and practical models to maintain the franchise's aesthetic.

Additionally, plans for a new Star Wars trilogy involving the Skywalker lineage have been announced. Jon Watts, known for directing the ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, is set to direct, with Simon Kinberg serving as writer. There are also reports that Daisy Ridley may return to her role as Rey. While Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet confirmed specific release dates, these developments signal a significant return to the core Skywalker narrative after several years of focusing on spin-off content.
