The Mandalorian and Grogu's Box Office Outlook Dims as Revenues Fall

The Star Wars film The Mandalorian and Grogu opened on May 22 with an $81 million domestic and $63 million international debut, totaling $165 million worldwide. In its latest weekend the movie earned just $10 million, a 59 percent drop from the previous weekend, and its cumulative global gross now stands at $293 million. With a reported production budget of $165 million and roughly $100 million spent on marketing, analysts estimate the film needs $500‑600 million in box‑office receipts to break even, making a profit increasingly unlikely and raising concerns it could become the lowest‑earning Star Wars title.

Director Jon Favreau’s recent commentary for the film also revealed that the movie includes the original 1976 Red Jammer Y‑wing model—never previously seen on screen—and that various visual elements were inspired by classic works such as Top Gun, The Force Awakens, and Apocalypse Now.
