Star Wars Galaxies Restoration receives A New Dawn update
The fan-led project Star Wars Galaxies Restoration has released a major update titled ‘A New Dawn’. This community-driven initiative, which is not affiliated with Lucasfilm, Disney, Electronic Arts, or Daybreak, aims to maintain and expand the original 2003 MMORPG experience.
A primary feature of the update is the introduction of a DirectX 12 renderer, currently available as an experimental option in the launcher. This technical upgrade enables volumetric fog, clouds, advanced atmospheric effects, a new water shader, and increased terrain and shadow distances. To support varying hardware, the update also integrates modern upscaling technologies, including NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS. Users enabling DirectX 12 require a processor with AVX2 support.
Beyond technical improvements, the update revises the planet Kashyyyk, including new instances and content rebalancing related to the original ‘Revenge of the Wookiees’ expansion. The development team recently expanded by 13 new collaborators, each tasked with improving specific aspects of the game that they personally value.
