Star Wars 'The Ninth Jedi' animated series slated for Disney+ debut on Aug 5 2026

Disney+ announced a new Star Wars animated series, "The Ninth Jedi," which will premiere on 5 August 2026. The show is a co‑production between Lucasfilm and Production I.G., directed by Shunsuke Tada with supervision by Kenji Kamiyama. A trailer released with the announcement shows the series set far in the galaxy’s future, long after the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, and follows the Jedi‑like heroine Lah Kara as she attempts to rescue her father, a master lightsaber smith, from the forces of the armored antagonist Nawaam.

The trailer hints at a thematic twist: in this era lightsaber colors no longer map to Jedi (blue) and Sith (red), as Nawaam wields a blue blade while Kara’s turns red. The series expands the non‑canonical Star Wars: Visions anthology, offering a new narrative outside the Skywalker saga.
