Stara Zagora celebrates city day with sports, aviation, and culture

Stara Zagora is celebrating its city day on October 5 with a diverse program of sports, culture, and historical commemorations. The festivities began on October 3 with a children's football tournament involving 30 teams and an aviation event at the Stara Zagora Airport titled “The City of Lindens Looks to the Sky.”

Additionally, the “Stara Zagora 2026” retro car rally took place at Artillery Park, featuring over 400 classic vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles from Bulgaria, Serbia, Czech Republic, Germany, United Kingdom, Greece, and Romania. The event also included a charitable component.

The official holiday program for October 5 includes a religious service at St. Nicholas Cathedral, a ceremonial procession, and the laying of flowers at the monument to the Defenders of Stara Zagora. Cultural highlights include free access to regional museums, a folklore concert by the Trakiya ensemble, and an “Art in the Park” event at the zoo. The celebrations will culminate in a concert by the artist Grafa at the Municipality Square.
