Stara Zagora commemorates National Awakening Day
The city of Stara Zagora held a ceremonial event at Ayazmoto Park to honor National Awakening Day. Citizens and institutional representatives gathered at the monument of Metropolitan Metodiy Kusev to pay tribute to the enlighteners, writers, clergy, and artists who preserved Bulgarian national identity and spirit.
The ceremony included a prayer led by Bishop Bogoslov of Marcianopolis, alongside local clergy. The program featured poetic performances by students from the Hristina Morfova National School of Music and Performing Arts.
During the event, Deputy Mayor Milena Zheleva highlighted the resilience of the city's inhabitants, noting how they rebuilt Stara Zagora stone by stone following its destruction in 1877. She also noted that 2027 will mark the 150th anniversary of the battles for the city and emphasized that the mission of the national awakeners continues through modern educators, artists, and cultural workers.
