Stara Zagora Mayor Zhivko Todorov demands GERB confidence vote
Stara Zagora Mayor Zhivko Todorov has demanded a vote of confidence from the GERB party following recent political tensions. During a party briefing attended by GERB leader Boyko Borisov, Todorov presented a signed resignation, stating that he keeps such a document “in his back pocket” to ensure accountability.
Todorov’s move follows several months of friction with the party. He previously resigned from GERB’s executive commission, citing the party’s poor electoral performance and a need for internal renewal. He has also faced scrutiny for his public support of presidential candidate Iliyana Yotova and his criticism of certain party decisions, including the seating of Vladislav Goranov in parliament.
Despite the tension, the GERB party members present voted to support him. Todorov defended his approach to governance, emphasizing the need for municipal leaders to work pragmatically with all governments regardless of political affiliation, while dismissing rumors of him joining other political projects as “political cannibalism.”
