Starbucks global store distribution and Go Coffee expansion strategy
Starbucks operates 41,304 stores across nearly 90 markets, according to fiscal year 2026 third-quarter data. The United States and China represent approximately 61% of the company's total units, with 16,933 stores in the U.S. and 8,103 in China. While the U.S. remains the largest market, China saw the highest growth rate, adding 797 stores between fiscal year 2024 and 2026, nearly four times the growth seen in the United States. Other significant markets include South Korea, Japan, and Canada, while the United Kingdom remains the largest market in Europe.
In Brazil, the Curitiba-based coffee chain Go Coffee is shifting its expansion strategy. The company aims to reach R$ 115 million in revenue by 2026, a 15% increase from 2025. Currently operating 230 units, Go Coffee plans to open between 50 and 60 new locations. The company utilizes a franchise model that does not charge monthly royalties, instead generating revenue through the manufacturing and distribution of supplies such as syrups, beverage bases, and sweets. The brand is currently reorganizing by closing less profitable units to prioritize larger cafe formats and franchisee financial health.
