Starbucks rolls out Coffee Tonic and new employee bonus program in Portugal

Starbucks introduced a limited‑edition Coffee Tonic line in Portuguese stores for the summer. The drink blends Starbucks coffee with Schweppes tonic water and is offered in three variants – Espresso Tonic, Cold Brew Tonic and Matcha Tonic – each prepared on‑site with ice and a hint of vanilla or citrus. The launch follows an international trend toward cold coffee beverages and aims to broaden consumption occasions.

In the same period, Starbucks announced a new employee incentive scheme. Baristas who meet performance targets can earn quarterly bonuses of up to US$300 under the “Best of Starbucks Reward” program. The company also added extra tip options, moved to weekly payroll and expects hourly wages to rise 5‑8%. These measures are part of a broader effort, led by CEO Brian Niccol, to invest roughly $500 million in labor and hiring across its North‑American operations and curb turnover.

Both initiatives reflect Starbucks’ strategy to adapt its product offering and workforce policies to evolving consumer and employee expectations in Portugal.
