Starbucks sees record sales with Unicorn Frappuccino relaunch
Starbucks has reported record-breaking sales following the limited-time reintroduction of its Unicorn Frappuccino. In North America, the company sold over 2 million of the colorful, mango-flavored beverages during the weekend of August 15-16, marking the biggest Saturday sales day in the company’s history. CEO Brian Niccol described the event as a “terrific cultural moment” for the brand.
In the United Kingdom, the three-day launch from August 15 to 17 saw 75,000 Unicorn Frappuccinos sold, peaking at a rate of 111 drinks per minute. The company also sold 44,000 Unicorn Cake Pops during the same period. The beverage's return is part of a broader “Back to Starbucks” strategy aimed at leveraging nostalgia and social media trends.
Despite the commercial success, the drink has sparked a controversial viral trend on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Some influencers have gained millions of views by filming themselves taking a single sip before discarding the entire drink, leading to criticisms regarding food waste.
