Starcloud raises $250 million to expand orbital AI data centers
Starcloud, an orbital computing startup, has secured an additional $250 million in its Series A funding round, bringing the total raised to $420 million. This investment brings the company's valuation to $2.3 billion. The funding, led by Manhattan West Ventures with participation from Nvidia, Cisco, and others, will be used to expand manufacturing at its Woodinville facility and develop Starcloud-3, its largest planned orbital data center spacecraft.
The company has requested permission from the Federal Communications Commission to operate a constellation of up to 88,000 spacecraft. Starcloud plans to launch two 8-kilowatt Starcloud-2 compute satellites in 2027 to perform AI inference in orbit for institutional and government clients.
A major strategic priority for the company is securing launch capacity. Starcloud aims to deploy its Starcloud-3 hardware using SpaceX’s Starship, noting that launch availability is a significant constraint as the industry transitions away from older rocket models.
