Stari Vulkan: Niš's historic industrial landmark
The Stari Vulkan complex in Niš serves as a significant historical landmark, representing the city's transition from an Oriental town to a modern industrial center. Located on the banks of the Nišava river, the site features a monumental brick building that originally functioned as the 'Konstantin' steam mill.
Built between 1903 and 1906, the structure is approximately 120 years old. Its architecture, characterized by massive brick walls, large vertical windows, and a high chimney, reflects the multi-story industrial mill tradition common in 19th and early 20th-century European and English industrial design.
