Stark Defence and MBDA partner on anti-ship missile for USV
Stark Defence and MBDA are collaborating to develop a surface-launched version of the Sea Venom anti-ship missile, specifically designed for use on unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). The partnership aims to meet the growing demand for precision maritime strikes in complex coastal environments.
The missile system is intended for the Vanta 12, a 12-metre USV developed by Stark Defence. The vessel utilizes the Minerva AI platform to autonomously monitor large maritime areas, detect threats, and deploy countermeasures. The Vanta 12 is capable of remaining at sea for weeks, covering up to 1,200 nautical miles with a sprint speed exceeding 40 knots.
The proposed weapon configuration for the USV includes an aft box launcher carrying four Sea Venom missiles and a forward launcher with 10 cells for Cascade loitering munitions. Both weapon types were tested during the NATO-led Exercise REPMUS 2026 in Portugal. While Sea Venom is currently utilized by the UK Royal Navy on Wildcat helicopters, this new iteration will allow for surface-based deployment.
