Starlink expands Indonesian connectivity as Russia develops Rassvet satellite network

In Indonesia, Lintasarta is strengthening its collaboration with SpaceX’s Starlink to develop more resilient digital connectivity infrastructure. The partnership aims to combine satellite networks with terrestrial infrastructure to meet the growing demands of digital technology and artificial intelligence. By utilizing Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, Lintasarta seeks to provide high-speed, low-latency internet, particularly in geographically challenging areas.

Simultaneously, Russia is developing its own satellite internet network, Rassvet, through the aerospace company Bureau 1440. Designed as an alternative to Starlink, the Rassvet project aims to deploy hundreds of LEO satellites, with a target to provide services by 2027. The system is intended to offer broadband speeds of up to 1 Gbps and utilizes 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) architecture to connect with ground-based cellular infrastructure. Bureau 1440 plans to launch up to 924 satellites by 2030 to support increasing data traffic requirements.
