Starlink expands satellite-to-phone services in Kazakhstan and Brazil

Starlink is expanding its satellite-to-phone connectivity services in Kazakhstan and Brazil. In Kazakhstan, Starlink Mobile has launched through the provider Beeline, marking the first consumer service of its Direct-to-Cell technology in Central Asia. This service allows compatible Android smartphones to connect directly to satellites for messaging and basic internet when traditional cellular coverage is unavailable, specifically targeting remote or mountainous regions.

In Brazil, the technology is currently in a different stage of implementation. While users can currently access Starlink internet via Wi-Fi through physical antennas and routers, the Direct-to-Device (D2D) system is being tested. The Brazilian regulatory agency Anatel is managing a pilot project for direct satellite-to-cellphone connections and has extended the authorization for the operator Vivo until April 2029, with Starlink serving as a partner in the project.
