Starlink granted 10-year satellite internet licence in UAE

The UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has granted Starlink a 10-year General Satellite Services Licence. This authorization allows the company to establish, operate, and manage a public satellite telecommunications network to provide high-speed broadband internet services across the country.

The new satellite layer is intended to complement the nation’s existing digital infrastructure, including 5G and fibre-optic networks. Starlink’s services will be available to individuals, businesses, and government entities. Additionally, the licence extends connectivity to the maritime and aviation sectors.

According to the regulator, the move aims to strengthen the resilience of the UAE’s digital infrastructure by providing an alternative communication channel during emergencies or when terrestrial networks are disrupted. All services must adhere to strict regulatory standards regarding security, reliability, and consumer rights protection.
