Starlink in active talks with Indian government over licence

Elon Musk's Starlink has applied for a licence to launch satellite‑communication services in India. The Indian government has issued a letter of intent, and the final licence is still pending.

Starlink says it is in "active and productive" discussions with the government, has received encouraging feedback on its ability to improve connectivity in remote areas, and has created a bespoke deployment model to meet India’s regulatory, security and sovereign technology requirements. The company refutes reports that approvals have been stalled, stating it has complied with all required processes. Other satellite companies – Bharti‑backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio‑SES – have licences but await spectrum allocation.
