Starlink launches satellite internet in Louisiana and Seychelles

Louisiana has signed a grant agreement with Starlink to provide high‑speed broadband to more than 10,000 rural locations across over 50 parishes. Under the deal, equipment will be supplied at no cost and service will cost about $55 a month, targeting areas where fiber deployment is not cost‑effective.

In the Seychelles, a soft launch was held at State House with Vice‑President Sebastien Pillay and the Seychelles Communications Regulatory Authority. The satellite service is now available to households and businesses, complementing existing providers and subject to local technical standards and consumer‑protection rules. Customers must install a receiver with a clear view of the sky and can subscribe through Starlink’s online platform. The launch expands Starlink’s footprint to its 28th African market, aiming to improve connectivity in underserved areas.

Both initiatives reflect Starlink’s broader effort to extend satellite broadband to remote and underserved regions worldwide.
