Starlink launches V5 antenna and plans Mini 2 portable kit
Starlink has added its fifth‑generation (V5) ground antennas to the online store in select markets. The V5 units are marketed as lighter and more efficient, but they are capped at 375 Mbps, slightly below the 400 Mbps limit of the previous generation, leading many users to question the practical benefit of upgrading.
Separately, an internal leak suggests Starlink is developing a new Mini 2 portable terminal. The prototype would be marginally smaller than the current Mini model, feature a four‑cell lithium battery with USB‑C charging, and incorporate upgrades to the GPS chipset, processor and thermal management. It is designed to operate in temperatures up to 95‑99 °C and to be usable in land or maritime settings. Starlink has not confirmed the device.
In Mexico, the company recently raised its service fees. The Mini kit’s up‑front cost could reach roughly 22,474 MXN, while the standard kit may cost about 25,074 MXN, reflecting higher hardware prices and additional regulatory and demand surcharges.
