Starlink to provide satellite internet to 6,000 Argentine schools

Argentina's National Communications Entity (ENACOM) has approved an agreement with Starlink Argentina S.R.L. to provide satellite internet to 6,000 educational establishments across the country. The program aims to connect schools in rural areas or those with deficient connectivity, including both state-run and zero-fee private institutions.

Under the agreement, Starlink will provide approximately US$9,978,000 worth of connectivity through 6,000 kits, accessories, and 24 months of high-speed, low-latency satellite service. The Universal Service Fund will contribute an additional US$11,898,000 to cover installation, technical support, monitoring, and a third year of connectivity, bringing the total project value to roughly US$21.8 million.

Following the initial 24-month subsidized period, participating provinces and municipalities will be responsible for the costs of the corporate service. Some reports indicate that the long-term costs associated with this Starlink agreement may be significantly higher than those previously offered by the state-owned company Arsat.
