Starlink to provide satellite internet to 6,000 rural Argentine schools

Starlink has reached an agreement with Argentina's Ministry of Human Capital and ENACOM to provide high-speed satellite internet to 6,000 rural schools across the country. The initiative involves the delivery of 6,000 complete connectivity kits, including equipment, accessories, logistics, and two years of service. The program will be funded by ENACOM using resources from the Universal Service Fund.

While the project aims to reduce the digital divide in remote areas, it has faced political scrutiny. National Deputy Agustín Rossi has questioned the lack of a competitive bidding process in selecting Starlink for the project, which has a total projected cost of USD 21,876,000. Rossi has requested detailed information regarding the selection criteria, cost determination, and whether alternative providers or technologies, such as ARSAT or fiber optics, were considered before the agreement was finalized.
