Starnberg entrepreneur offers €500 incentive for child baptisms
Millionaire Peter Löw, a real‑estate investor from Starnberg, has launched the “Starnberger Schutzengel” programme that pays families €500 for each child baptized in the Catholic parish community of Starnberg (including Söcking, Hanfeld, Perchting, Hadorf and Landstetten). The offer is limited to the first 40 children, all under three years old, and is funded with a total of €20,000 until the end of 2026.
Löw says the cash “small push” helps families in the high‑cost area of Bavaria and may encourage more baptisms as church membership declines. Recipients also receive a plush toy and a Gospel booklet. Parish priest Andreas Jall welcomes the support for struggling families but cautions that the church must not appear to “buy” believers. Löw plans to evaluate the programme’s usefulness after the year‑end deadline.
