Starstech supplies 414 tons of carbon credits to sustainable music festival

Climate tech startup Starstech has supplied 414 tons of voluntary carbon credits (KCR) to the ‘Sustainable Wave Festival’, a carbon-neutral music event held at Incheon Munhak Stadium. The festival aimed to offset emissions caused by audience travel, with a total plan to incinerate 1,000 tons of credits based on an estimated 40,000 attendees.

Starstech provided 164 tons through a paid sale to the organizer, AOD, and donated the remaining 250 tons. The credits were generated through the company’s starfish upcycling business, which converts marine starfish into eco-friendly de-icing agents, cosmetic ingredients, and fertilizers. This process reduces environmental burdens and generates certified carbon reduction results.

Starstech currently holds a cumulative total of over 56,000 tons of voluntary carbon credits, the largest amount among small and medium-sized enterprises in South Korea. The company plans to expand its methodology to include the regeneration of waste acid to create additional credits and intends to apply its certification and trading expertise to international markets.
