Stary Opole church consecrates new altar with religious relics

On October 18, 2026, a ceremony was held at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Stary Opole to consecrate a new altar, ambo, and tabernacle. The Mass was led by Bishop Kazimierz Gurda of Siedlce.

The new altar contains the relics of saints Vincent and Victor, as well as the blessed priest Jerzy Popiełuszko. During the service, the community also honored Father Jan Zakrzewski, a priest from Nowe Opole who served as a chaplain during the September campaign and later died in the Dachau concentration camp in 1942. An epitaph made from the original altar mensa was used to commemorate him.
