Starz and Disney+ identified as frequently unused streaming subscriptions
Financial planners are identifying several streaming services that consumers frequently pay for without active use. Starz is noted as a primary example, with data indicating that approximately 49.6% of its subscribers have not used the service in over a month. Despite having 17.6 million subscribers at the end of 2026, the platform faces challenges regarding discoverability and cultural presence compared to competitors like Netflix.
Disney+ also appears on lists of underutilized subscriptions, with 44.4% of respondents leaving the service unused. Analysts suggest this is often due to consumers subscribing for specific seasonal content, such as Marvel series or family films, and failing to cancel once the interest wanes. Amazon Prime Video is similarly flagged, though its usage is often obscured because the video component is bundled with Prime shipping services, making it difficult for users to evaluate the standalone value of the video content.
