State Archives of Macedonia launches Braille historical catalogue

The State Archives of Macedonia, in collaboration with the ‘Dimitar Vlahov’ State School for the Rehabilitation of Children and Youth with Visual Impairment in Skopje, has launched a new Braille catalogue titled ‘Documents that Speak through Touch’.

The 63-page publication features a selection of significant historical documents, sketches, and maps from the Archives' collections, adapted into Braille to ensure accessibility for the visually impaired. The collection spans a wide historical range, including a 12th-century Gospel of St. Luke, Old Church Slavonic manuscripts, Ottoman-era documents, and works from Macedonian enlighteners and revolutionaries.

Key state documents included are the ASNOM Declaration of August 2, 1944, and records regarding Macedonia’s admission to the United Nations in 1993. Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska attended the promotion, noting that the catalogue serves as a bridge to make national heritage accessible to all citizens by removing barriers to information.
