State Audit Institution employees in Montenegro to begin general strike
Employees of the State Audit Institution (DRI) in Montenegro are scheduled to begin a general strike on October 5, 2026. The strike follows a previous warning strike that failed to prompt action from the DRI Senate and the Government of Montenegro.
The striking workers are demanding the fulfillment of a Parliament of Montenegro conclusion that mandates the government to secure funds for improving the material status of state auditors and to provide adequate office space. The strike committee claims the government has reduced funds approved by the parliamentary Committee for Economy, Finance, and Budget for two consecutive years. Additionally, the Ministry of Finance reportedly twice refused to approve the DRI's rulebook regarding auditor salaries in 2025.
During the work stoppage, all audit-related activities will be suspended, including the planning, execution, and reporting of audits. This includes the audit of the Draft Law on the Final Account of the Montenegro Budget for 2025. While striking, employees are required to maintain working hours and ensure the security of confidential documentation.
