State Audit Institution finds irregularities in Belgrade and tourism sectors
The State Audit Institution (DRI) has issued negative opinions regarding financial reports for the City of Belgrade and the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, citing significant irregularities.
In Belgrade, auditors discovered that over 61 million square meters of public land, totaling more than 5 billion euros, were not recorded in business books. The report noted that in 56 out of 167 cadastral municipalities, no land was recorded, while data in 111 others was incomplete. The DRI warned that these omissions jeopardize the reliability of public property records and increase the risk of asset loss.
Regarding tourism, a DRI audit of funds managed by the Ministry of Tourism and Youth between 2023 and 2025 revealed that only 40 out of 123 funded projects were completed on time. The audit highlighted insufficient project preparation, deadline extensions, and weak oversight. Specific issues were noted in Sjenica and Priboj, where significant portions of transferred funds were reportedly used for non-intended purposes, such as maintaining municipal liquidity.
