State Bank of India warns of service disruptions amid planned nationwide strikes
The State Bank of India (SBI) has warned of potential service disruptions due to a series of nationwide strikes organized by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The planned industrial action includes a one-day strike on September 11, a three-day walkout from September 28 to 30, and an indefinite strike beginning October 26, 2026, if grievances remain unresolved.
While SBI has implemented contingency plans to maintain operations, branch services such as cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque clearances, and administrative processing may face delays. Digital banking services, including UPI, are expected to remain functional.
In addition to the union strikes, several regional holidays and government orders will affect banking availability. In Delhi, banks will be closed on September 11 following a holiday declaration ahead of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit. In Jaipur, banks will be closed on September 11 due to Municipal Corporation elections. Other scheduled closures include September 12 and 13, as well as standard Sunday and second/fourth Saturday holidays as per the Reserve Bank of India calendar.
