State Investigation Agency reopens Kashmiri Pandit massacre cases
The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir has reopened several cold cases involving the targeted killings of the Kashmiri Pandit community. A primary focus is the 1998 Wandhama massacre in Ganderbal district, where 23 people, including women and children, were killed by militants.
Other high-profile investigations being revived include the 1990 murders of author Sarvanand Kaul Premi and his son Virendra Kaul, as well as the 1990 kidnapping and murder of nurse Sarla Bhat. In the Bhat case, the SIA has already submitted a charge sheet naming JKLF leader Mohammad Yousuf Malik and Khurshid Ahmad Chalkoo as masterminds.
The agency is also preparing to probe the 1989 killings of BJP leader Tika Lal Taploo and Judge Neelkanth Ganjoo. This move follows directives to address unresolved terror incidents and provide justice to affected families. Meanwhile, relatives of victims from the 2003 Nadimarg massacre have called for their specific case to be reopened as well.
