State Lottery trial continues in Skopje with evidence presentation

The trial regarding the “State Lottery” continues at the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje, focusing on the presentation of material evidence by the Public Prosecutor. The case involves several high-profile defendants, including former First Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi and former director of the State Lottery, Perparim Bajrami, both of whom had previously fled before surrendering to authorities.

The prosecution is presenting extensive documentation related to the establishment of a joint venture with a foreign partner, government decisions, and financial transactions concerning the procurement of video lottery terminals (VLT). Evidence includes the 2023 work program for the State Lottery, expert opinions on investment feasibility, and records from the 158th government session held in June 2023.

Other defendants include Bashkim Avdi, Metodija Dimovski, Skender Mehmedi, Bojan Janev, Fatmir Ramadanovski, and Aleksandar Dimitrioski. The group is accused of exceeding official powers, resulting in damages to the State Lottery totaling 596,125,511 denars. All defendants have so far pleaded not guilty.
