Mexico municipalities rehabilitate football fields under Mundial Social program

The municipal government of Naucalpan, led by Mayor Isaac Montoya Márquez, inaugurated its 14th rehabilitated synthetic football field in the Nueva San Rafael neighbourhood. The project is part of the national "Mundial Social" initiative and the COMUNA (Comunidad Unida y Activa) program, which also included flood‑control works such as concrete and gabion walls along the river. Montoya said, "Hoy gobernamos con justicia, principalmente para nuestras comunidades. Contar con espacios más dignos, rehabilitar campos y canchas, pero también recuperar los entornos, es fundamental para que los jóvenes tengan mejores condiciones para desarrollarse físicamente y perseguir sus sueños."

In the neighbouring state of Puebla, Cuautlancingo Mayor Omar Muñoz opened a new five‑a‑side football field at the Deportivo Uranga, also funded through the National Program for Intervention and Modernisation of Sports Infrastructure linked to the upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup. The mayor highlighted the field’s role in promoting social cohesion, preventing risk behaviours and supporting youth development.

A similar field, La Y, was inaugurated in Texcoco under the same Mundial Social framework, extending the network of community sports spaces across the region. Together, these projects demonstrate coordinated federal, state and municipal efforts to improve public recreation facilities and bolster local resilience.
