State of Mexico authorities seize 44 properties in anti-theft operation
Authorities in the State of Mexico have seized 44 properties across 17 municipalities as part of ‘Operación Restitución’, an initiative aimed at combating real estate theft and illegal possession. The operation, conducted between October 3 and October 9, involved the State Attorney General's Office (FGJEM) alongside the Mexican Army, Navy, National Guard, and state and municipal police forces.
The enforcement actions included 20 search warrants and 24 inspections, resulting in the seizure of 36 houses, seven plots of land, and one commercial establishment. The targeted municipalities included Chalco, Toluca, Nezahualcóyotl, and Texcoco, among others.
Since the start of this strategy, the FGJEM reports that 2,755 properties have been secured across 90 municipalities. Of these, 1,759 have already been restored to their legitimate owners following legal determinations by the Public Ministry. The operation also seeks to identify potential complicity among municipal and state public officials in these illicit activities.
