State of Mexico Gov. Delfina Gómez gives 2,650 scholarships to police families

Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez of the State of Mexico delivered 2,650 Bienestar academic‑permanence scholarships to daughters and sons of operational police officers in Toluca’s central palace courtyard. The scholarships, worth a total of 13.2 million pesos and providing 5,000 pesos each, are intended for students in basic, medium‑superior and higher education and were awarded to families from 90 municipalities. About 52 % of the recipients are women.

The ceremony was attended by federal Education Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo, SECTI head Miguel Ángel Hernández Espejel, local officials and members of the state congress. Gómez emphasized that supporting the families of those who protect the public is “an act of justice” and highlighted education as a key tool to reduce inequality. The scholarships complement broader state efforts that include new technological high schools, university extensions, and infrastructure upgrades in more than 4,000 schools.

The program is part of the state’s Bienestar educational initiative and aligns with federal SEP policies aimed at expanding access to education for vulnerable families.
