State of Mexico commissions approve Dignified Care Law

Joint commissions of the State of Mexico Legislature have approved the draft for the Law of the Right to Dignified Care for the State of Mexico and its Municipalities. The legislation aims to establish legal and institutional frameworks to guarantee the right to care that is universal, accessible, equitable, and of high quality for all individuals.

The project, which integrates initiatives from Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez and members of the Morena parliamentary group, covers care services for children, adolescents, and older adults. It emphasizes the professionalization of caregivers and a more equitable distribution of caregiving responsibilities among women, men, families, the state, and the private sector.

Additionally, the approved decree establishes October 29 as the State Day of Caregivers to recognize both paid and unpaid care work. While the law seeks to strengthen social development planning, some legislators have called for guaranteed budgetary allocations to ensure the effective implementation of these services and awareness campaigns.
