State of Mexico electoral institute to digitize 2027 candidate registration

The Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM) is implementing a digital registration platform to streamline the candidacy process for the 2027 local elections. This system aims to facilitate the submission and review of documents for an estimated 20,000 candidates competing for 1,216 municipal positions and 75 local congressional seats.

The project, which has been reviewed by political party representatives, will allow for the digitalization of essential documents such as birth certificates. According to the IEEM, the process will utilize the institute’s own equipment and custom-developed software, ensuring no additional expenditure is required. The institute has already secured a budget increase of 262.3 million pesos to support preparatory activities for the 2026-2027 electoral cycle.
