State of Mexico governor and teachers union seal 2026 wage deal

Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez of the State of Mexico and the Sindicato de Maestros al Servicio del Estado de México (SMSEM) signed a 2026 collective bargaining agreement that raises teachers' base salary by 4% and adds a 5% increase effective from January with an additional 2% from September.

The pact also provides a 4% increase for teaching duties, a 5% raise for the pantry allowance, and expands professional‑development support, health‑related assistance and family benefits, including scholarships and housing aid. The agreement covers roughly 105,000 public‑school teachers in the state and is presented as a result of ongoing dialogue between the government and the union.
