State of Mexico launches Eastern Zone Plan to aid 10 million residents

The State of Mexico and federal government have unveiled the Integral Plan for the Eastern Zone, allocating 75.786 billion pesos to address historic underdevelopment across ten municipalities, including Ecatepec, Nezahualcóyotl and Texcoco. Funding comes from 60 % federal, 30 % state and 10 % municipal resources.

Key components cover water and drainage (101 projects funded with 9 billion pesos), road rehabilitation using full‑pavement trains, housing upgrades with 100 000 improvement grants and regularisation of 12 000 homes, and the construction of four hospitals, six family medicine units and ten childcare centers. Under the IMSS‑Bienestar scheme, 4.19 billion pesos will strengthen 17 hospitals, 180 medical units and 57 operating rooms. Public spaces such as the CODICE Xochiaca park are also being built.

Security measures under a unified command have reportedly cut vehicle theft by 52 % and intentional homicides by 35 % in the area, signalling broader social benefits alongside the infrastructure upgrades.
