State of Mexico Human Rights Commission monitors new disability‑women rights agreement

The State of Mexico’s Human Rights Commission (CODHEM) will oversee the implementation of a coordination agreement signed between the State Secretariat of Women and the Instituto Mexiquense para la Discapacidad (IMEDIS). The pact aims to strengthen protection and access to justice for women with disabilities. CODHEM president Víctor Leopoldo Delgado Pérez acted as honor witness at the signing ceremony, which was led by Women Secretariat head María Esther Rodríguez Hernández and IMEDIS director José Jaime Montenegro Valdepeñas. The agreement calls for joint training of staff, sharing of expertise and increased visibility of the barriers that hinder women with disabilities from reporting violence and accessing services. Delgado emphasized that the rights of women and of persons with disabilities must be defended together, noting that physical, social, communicational and institutional obstacles—not disability itself—limit access to health, justice and support. CODHEM pledged to verify that the commitments translate into concrete actions and measurable results. “Signing as a witness means leaving a record that the agreement existed, that it was taken seriously, and that, besides the signatories, there will be an institution attentive to demand its compliance,” he said.
