State of Mexico municipalities report significant crime reductions

Municipalities in the State of Mexico are reporting significant decreases in crime rates due to coordinated security strategies.

In Texcoco, part of the Unified Command initiative, homicide rates fell by 37% and vehicle theft dropped by 53%. This progress is part of the Integral Plan for the Eastern Zone, which involved 1,180 coordinated operations between different levels of government during the June-July period. The strategy involves cooperation among several municipalities, including Chalco, Ecatepec, and Nezahualcóyotl.

In Toluca, data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System shows an 83.33% reduction in intentional homicide over the last three years. Other notable declines in the capital include a 78.30% drop in vehicle theft, a 73.80% decrease in extortion, and a 50% reduction in kidnapping. Overall, high-impact crimes in Toluca have seen a sustained descent of 35.31% between 2024 and 2026.
