Mexico expands Bienestar card rollout and launches women's microcredit scheme

The Mexican federal government began a nationwide distribution of Bienestar cards on June 15, covering seniors eligible for the Adult Pension and women aged 60 to 64 who registered in April. Recipients receive SMS notifications with the exact date, time and location to collect their cards, and must present official ID and registration proof. The same Bienestar programme continues to provide bimonthly cash payments of 2,500 pesos to women beneficiaries, with deposits scheduled for early July and verification possible via the official portal, app or ATMs.

In Mexico City, the Secretariat of Women (SEMUJERES) announced the first tranche of micro‑credits under the Programme for Economic Autonomy of Women. Partnering with the City Social Development Fund (FONDESO), the scheme offers loans ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 pesos to support women‑owned micro‑ and small‑enterprises. The initiative aims to strengthen financial independence, reduce economic vulnerability and promote formal employment for women entrepreneurs.
