State Opera South Australia to stage new production of Carmen
State Opera South Australia will conclude its Golden Jubilee mainstage season with a new production of Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” this October. The production is scheduled to run from October 17 to October 24 at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Adelaide.
Directed by Laura Hansford and conducted by Artistic Director Dane Lam, the production features South Australian soprano Charlotte Kelso in the title role. The cast includes tenor Gerard Schneider as Don José, baritone Samuel Dale Johnson as Escamillo, and soprano Desiree Frahn as Micaëla. The performances will be accompanied by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the State Opera Chorus.
Artistic Director Dane Lam noted that the production aligns with the company’s goal of making opera accessible, stating that the art form is “elite, not elitist.”
