Staten Island man survives lightning strike captured on doorbell camera
Thomas Fahmy, a 24-year-old congressional staffer for New York Representative Nicole Malliotakis, narrowly survived a lightning strike on Staten Island on August 27. The incident was captured on a doorbell camera as Fahmy was walking toward his car.
Fahmy described experiencing an intense, painful burning sensation throughout his body following the flash. After collapsing, he was assisted by a nearby resident, Stephanie Homan, who helped him seek shelter and called for emergency assistance.
Despite the severity of the event, Fahmy was evaluated at a hospital and released the following day with no serious injuries or burns. He has since returned to work and described his survival as a miracle rather than mere luck.
