Statens vegvesen opens new Røyrnes rest area in Lærdal
Statens vegvesen will open a new rest area at Røyrnes along county road 5627 in Lærdal municipality on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Located along the Aurlandsfjellet National Tourist Route near Lærdalsfjorden, the project aims to improve traffic safety by providing a secure entrance and exit from the county road.
The facility features a modern service building with a glass facade and a distinct architectural identity. The building includes a disabled-accessible toilet, two unisex toilets, and a technical room. The rest area is designed with universal accessibility in mind and includes seating areas for visitors to enjoy the view.
Parking capacity includes spaces for eleven passenger cars, including one disabled spot, and five motorhomes. Additionally, a dedicated rest staircase provides direct access to the fjord for swimming or closer proximity to the water. This site is one of five tourist road projects established by Statens vegvesen along the Aurlandsfjellet route.
