Statnett CEO Vardheimer outlines Norway's record power‑grid expansion

Elisabeth Vike Vardheimer, chief executive of Statnett, said the transmission system operator is pursuing an unprecedented build‑out, with about 270 active projects across Norway and more than 1,000 MW of additional capacity added to the existing grid in the past year. She highlighted the importance of strengthening critical infrastructure, connecting new customers and collaborating with regional network companies and authorities to secure reliable electricity supply.

At the same time, Møre Trafo, a regional transformer firm, reported a "record year" as concerns that the green‑energy transition might stall are easing. The company, which previously warned of a potential hand‑brake on electrification, now sees strong momentum in Norway’s push toward greater electricity use and investment in the power sector.
