Statue of Liberty commemorates centennial of National Monument status

The Statue of Liberty, a monumental copper sculpture located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, serves as an iconic symbol of freedom and a historic gift from France to the United States. Designed by sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with an internal framework by Gustave Eiffel, the monument was officially dedicated on October 28, 1886. The structure stands approximately 93 meters tall, including its pedestal, and features a copper exterior that has developed a green patina over time.

To commemorate the centennial of its designation as a National Monument in 1924, The Bradford Exchange Mint has released a Statue of Liberty 100th Anniversary Proof Coin Collection. These 24K gold-plated coins feature patriotic imagery, including the statue's profile and quotes from Emma Lazarus’s poem, “The New Colossus.”
